BIL has become a corporate member of the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower, marking its commitment to greater inclusivity for employees and to support customers.
The Bank joins a growing network of organisations striving to make workplaces and services more accessible and inclusive for everyone. It reflects the Bank’s commitment to creating an environment where colleagues and visitors alike feel safe to be themselves and confident that their needs will be understood without having to explain or disclose personal information. As part of its commitment, BIL will drive awareness about Sunflower among employees to foster a workplace where colleagues can build a greater understanding of non-visible disabilities and how to better support those who experience them.
Globally 1 in 6 individual live with a disability. And of those, it is estimated that up to 80% are living with a non-visible disability, such as autism, anxiety, chronic pain, hearing loss… That is over 1 billion people. The Sunflower symbol gives individuals a discreet, voluntary way to share that they have a non-visible disability, condition, or neurodivergence and may need extra assistance, understanding, time, or space. This simple, non-verbal method empowers individuals to navigate their workplace and public spaces more confidently and easily, fostering inclusive and understanding environments.
