BIL reaffirms its regulatory readiness and resilience following an ECB administrative decision

  • 30/06/2026

Luxembourg, 30 June 2026 – Banque Internationale à Luxembourg (BIL) confirms that the European Central Bank (ECB) has imposed an administrative fine in connection with a reporting error affecting a limited number of regulatory filings for the period from December 2023 to June 2024.

The issue was identified through BIL’s internal control framework, demonstrating the effectiveness of the Bank’s monitoring mechanisms. BIL corrected the relevant data, republished the impacted quarterly reports, and informed itself supervisory authorities and rating agencies of its mistake. Since then, BIL has also reinforced its internal control platform and processes.

The ECB’s decision does not indicate any weakness in BIL’s overall risk profile and financial strength. Throughout the indicated period concerned, BIL remained prudently managed, fully operational, and in compliance with its minimum capital requirements, maintaining a transparent and constructive dialogue with supervisory authorities.

BIL benefits from a strong financial position, underpinned by solid capital and liquidity levels. The Bank remains fully committed to the highest standards of compliance, transparency, and continuous improvement, while continuing to focus on its strategic priorities and on delivering reliable, secure services to its clients.

The Bank requested internal and external reviews that did not establish intentionality.

BIL’s Board of Directors will consider the options available regarding this ECB Decision.
