No service provider or company should be the sole keeper of its disaster recovery solution. Should your own services—networks, ISPs, data centers, people, etc.—become unavailable, so will your ability to control and rectify unplanned events.
Flexibility and Responsiveness
BIL’s traffic management service monitors the performance of each
content site, and the Internet itself. This continuously updated
information is used to decide where each client request should be
routed. Since this process is carried out in real time and at the edge
of the network, BIL can quickly adjust to changes in site and network
performance. If a server or site becomes unreachable, traffic is
instantly and transparently shifted to another - without interruption
in service to the client.
Scalability
BIL uses a direct-return-path architecture. Replies to client requests,
which typically comprise up to 95% of a site's traffic, are routed
directly by the Internet. This gives BIL the ability to manage the
delivery of a virtually unlimited amount of traffic. With most very
high traffic applications, such as streaming video delivery, server to
client traffic may actually comprise more than 95% of the site's total
traffic volume.
Interoperability
BIL can be used with virtually any local server load balancing solution
currently available. BIL can also be used with cache servers and
popular content distribution services.
Proximity and Congestion Detection
BIL uses proximity calculations and network congestion measurements, as
well as local Web site performance metrics, to determine where each
client request should be routed. BIL uses the actual geographical
locations of both clients and server sites; both standard Internet
protocols and BIL proprietary methods are used to measure network
congestion and latency.
Network Intelligence and Learning
Site performance is continuously monitored regardless of what local
load balancing solution is in place. This combination allows BIL to
reliably choose the best content site to handle each request.
Additionally,
BIL’s’ service is designed so that, as each client request travels
through the system, the system as a whole gains greater knowledge of
the environment; network, site, server and application.
